The Concept of Self in Ayurveda

The Self, as this inner dimension of our nature is called in Ayurveda, is the central point of our being, the hub of the wheel. It is the true inner center of our diversified lives. Thought, feelings, speech, action, and relationships all originate here, deep within the personality. The whole person-and the whole field of interpersonal behavior-can be spontaneously enhanced by the process of self-referral, or looking within to experience the Self. This is analogous to the natural process by which all the branches, leaves, flowers, and fruit of a tree can be simultaneously nourished and enlivened by watering the root.

The Self can be directly experienced. Those who do experience it find it to be deeply peaceful, yet a reservoir of creativity, intelligence, and happiness that spills over into all phases of living.

Spiritual Sex and Swadhisthana Chakra

The Sacral Chakra encapsulates your sexuality, self esteem, creativity, pleasures and frustrations. New research has found that spirituality has a greater effect on the sex lives of young adults — especially women — than religion, impulsiveness or alcohol.

Here is your chance to spiritualize your sex life or to make your spiritual life more sexy or sex life more spiritual.

As I mentioned in my previous post Mystery of your body Chakras and beyond about the importance of Our 2nd chakra Swadhisthana or Spleen/Sacral and how it works wonder in your sexual life, outlook of your intimacy and creativity. You understand more deeper meaning of Spiritual sex, you understand more about your partner’s desire. Sexual energy is a part of our hidden kundalini  (coiled one) energy, which in turn is a concentrated form of etheric or life-force energy.

An energy deficiency in the second chakra can cause:

  • Fear of happiness or pleasure, self-sabotage
  • Lack of creativity and authenticity
  • Low libido
  • Pessimism, depression
  • Irregular menstrual cycle, urinary or bladder infection.

Various techniques to heal and balance the Chakra:

Meditation

Meditation is very useful for chakra cleansing and balancing. For example, a simple sacral chakra healing meditation consists in envisioning an orange lotus or orange crescent moon in the area of the second chakra in the pelvis area. Hold that image in your mind for a few minutes while breathing deeply.

Sacral Chakra Healing foods

Dietary changes can also help cleanse your second chakra. Oranges, melons, coconuts and other sweet fruits are good sacral chakra healing food. Cinnamon is also useful, as is drinking plenty of water.

Essential Oil For Chakra Healing

Sandalwood, patchouli, orange, rose and ylang-ylang essential oils can be used as aromatherapy for second chakra healing. These can be used alone, in meditation, and in conjunction with chakra crystals.

Using Chakra Healing Stones

Sacral chakra healing stones include citrine, carnelian, orange calcite, and other orange stones. Moonstone can also be used because of this chakra’s association with water and the moon.

Yoga poses to open the second chakra

Yoga for sacral chakra healing should focus on hip opening poses like Upavistha Konasana, or Open Angle Pose. Baddha Konasana, or Bound Angle Pose, is another simple but useful pose. Yoga practice for second chakra healing should be slow and relaxed rather than fast or overly challenging.

Prana -Your Spiritual Body’s Energy

prana1
Prana- the life energy

“One who knows the Prana–whence he has his source, how he enters the body, how he lives there after dividing himself five-fold, what are his inner workings–such an one attains to immortality, even to immortality” (Prashna Upanishad 3:11, 12).

“And then at the moment of death, through the nerve in the center of the spine, the Udana, which is the fifth Prana, leads the virtuous man upward to higher birth, the sinful man downward to lower birth, and the man who is both virtuous and sinful to rebirth in the world of men (Prashna Upanishad 3:5-7).

We are, and everything we see around us is made of pure energy. Prana flows in everything that exists. Everything else to to exist: air, water, fire, earth, wind, trees, building, food, clothes, metal, cloud, stars..every atom, molecules of every substance and materiel”

Prana  is the Sanskrit word for “life force” or vital principle or “absolute energy”. In Hindu philosophy including yoga, Indian medicine, and martial arts, the term refers collectively to all cosmic energy, permeating the Universe on all levels. Prana is often referred to as the “life force” or “life energy”. It also includes energies present in inanimate objects. In the literature, prana is sometimes described as originating from the Sun and connecting the elements of the Universe. This life energy has been vividly invoked and described in the ancient Vedas and Upanishads.

If this is kept in mind the following will be more comprehensible and meaningful.

Indian philosophy describes prana flowing in channels called Nadis. The Shiva Samhita states that there is a total of 350,000 nadis in the human body, while other texts says there are 72,000 nadis, each branching off into another 72,000. These nadis play an important role in the application and understanding of certain yoga practices. Shiva Samhita explains that the three most important nadis are the Ida, the Pingala and the Sushumna, each facilitating the flow of praṇā vāyu throughout the body.

Ida nadi relates to the right side of the brain, and the left side of the body, terminating at the left nostril. Pingala nadi relates to the left side of the brain and the right side of the body, terminating at the right nostril. Sushumna nadi connects the base chakra at the base of the spine to the crown chakra at the top of the head

“The Prana himself dwells in eye, ear, mouth, and nose; the Apana, which is the second Prana, rules the organs of excretion and generation; the Samana, which is the third Prana, inhabits the navel and governs digestion and assimilation.

Divisions of prana

Though the antahkarana, the inner instrument, is one, yet it assumes four forms:

i) Manas: the thinking mind,

ii) Buddhi:  intellect,

iii) Chitta: memory or consciousness and

iv) Ahamkara: ego, according to the different functions it performs. Likewise, though prana is one,

Five Forms of Prana

according to the different functions it performs. This division is termed as vritti bheda. it assumes five forms:

1) Prana: the prana that moves upward

2) Apana: The prana that moves downward, producing the excretory functions in general

3) Samana: The prana the carries the grosser material of food to the apana and brings the subtler material to each limb; the general force of digestion.

4) Udana: The prana which brings up or carries down what has been drunk or eaten; the general force of assimilation.

5) Vyana: The prana that holds prana and apana together and produces circulation in the body.

Colour of the pranas

Prana is said to be of the colour of blood, red gem or coral. Apana is of the colour indragopa (an insect of white or red colour). Samana is of the colour between that of pure milk or crystal and an oily shining colour, that is, something between both prana and apana. Udana is of an apandara, pale white, colour and vyana resembles the colour of archis, a ray of light

Control of prana

The yogi who becomes an expert in the knowledge of prana, will have no fear of any power, because he has mastery over all the manifestations of powers in the universe. What is commonly known as the power of personality is nothing more than the natural capacity of a person to wield his prana. Some persons are more successful in life, more influential and fascinating than others. It is all due to the power of this prana. Such people manipulate every day, unconsciously of course, the same influence which the yogi uses consciously by the command of his will.

There are various methods to heal and control Prana

A yogi can withdraw prana from any area of the body. That area gets benumbed, becomes impervious to heat and cold and has no sensation. A yogi can also send prana to any area and make it oversensitive; he can send it to the eyes and see distant objects; he can send it to the nose and experience divine aromas; he can send it to the tongue and experience super-sensuous taste.

By control of prana the yogi can also control the omnipresent manifesting power out of which all energies take their origin, whether concerning magnetism, electricity, gravitation, cohesion, nerve currents, vital forces or thought vibrations; in fact, the total forces of the universe, physical and mental. A comprehensive knowledge of prana and its function is absolutely necessary for pranayama.

Mystery of your body Chakras and beyond

Your Chakras – Gateway to your soul

ekah svayam san jagatah sisrikshaya
dvitiyayatmann adhi yogamayaya
srijasy adah pasi punar grasishyase
yathorna nabhir bhagavan sva shaktibhih

Meaning: “O Lord, you are one without a second, desiring to create, you create, maintain and dissolve the creation by winding up your energies. The diffusion of these energies are under the control of your secondary energy, viz., yogamaya (linking energy), just as a spider creates a cobweb by its own energy and again winds it up.”

Origin of Chakra:

The word comes from Sanskrit CACRA meaning “wheel” or “circle” (Also, cognate to both words) and sometimes referring to “wheel of life”. The earliest known mention of chakras is found in the later Upanishads, including specifically the Brahma Upanishad and the Yogatattva Upanishad.

What is Chakras?

‘Everything is Energy’. This is a widely accepted theory in Quantum Physics and a scientifically proven fact. chakrasleonardo

There are fourteen great nerve centers in the physical body, in the astral body and in the body of the soul. And these centers are called Chakras. Chakras are considered vortexes in which etheric energy can enter or leave the human energy body, which in turn affects the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual aspects of the human. They are energy centers that govern the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual aspects of the human form, whether or not the human is aware of them. These vortexes are metabolizing centers in the human energy body. Their healthy functioning is vital to having a healthy human body, mind and emotional life. They are also vital to experiences of divinity, or altered states of consciousness.

It is a common belief that children see chakras and the auric layers around humans until they shut down these extra-sensory perceptions. This happens because of the need to connect more fully with physical existence or because they are in environments not supportive to such endeavors. Often, a child is told that he or she is seeing something that isn’t there. Eventually the child lets go of this experience and ability, considering it “not real” in human life.

Chakras and auras can most easily be seen with the inner eye, psychic perception, during meditations or healing sessions. They can also be seen by the physical eye after much meditation, concentration, training and study of the human energy field. Some people who can see them do so without formal training. Sometimes the ordinary person will see auras spontaneously and unexpectedly. Others work for years to achieve the spiritual power (siddhi) of aura viewing.

How many Chakras are there in human body?

Although most people have heard of seven chakras, there are actually 114 in the body. The human body is a complex energy form; in addition to the 114 chakras, it also has 72,000 “nadis,” or energy channels, along which vital energy, or “prana,” moves. When the nadis meet at different points in the body, they form a triangle. We call this triangle a chakra, which means “wheel.” We call it a wheel because it symbolizes growth, dynamism and movement, so even though it is actually a triangle, we call it a chakra. Some of these centers are very powerful, while others are not as powerful. At different levels, these energy centers produce different qualities in a human being.

THE PRIMARY “CHAKRS” AND HOW THEY WORK

  1. Mooladhara or Root Chakra:

    1-red-root-chakra
    Mooladhara or Root Chakra

It is symbolized by a lotus with four petals and the color red. Mooladhara is really made up of two terms: “Moola” means the root or source, and “adhar” means the foundation. It is the very basic foundation of life.

We can speak in terms of lower and higher chakras, but such language is often and too easily misunderstood.

In the physical body, your energies need to be in the Mooladhara chakra to some extent. Otherwise, you cannot exist. If the Mooladhara chakra alone is dominant, food and sleep will be the predominant factors in your life. It is like comparing the foundation of a building to the roof; the roof is not superior to the foundation. The foundation of the building is more basic to the building than the roof, and the quality, life span, stability and security of the building depends, to a large extent, on the foundation rather than the roof. But in terms of language, the roof is higher, and the foundation is lower.

2. Swadhisthana or Spleen/Sacral:

2-orange-sacral-chakra
Swadhisthana or Sacral Chakra.

The second chakra is “Swadhisthana.” This chakra is located in the sacrum and is considered to correspond to the testes or the ovaries that produce the various sex hormones involved in the reproductive cycle.

If your energies move into Swadhisthana, you are a pleasure seeker. When this chakra is active, you enjoy the physical world in so many ways. If you look at a pleasure seeker, you will see that his life and his experience of life are just a little more intense compared with a person who is only about food and sleep.

3. Manipura  or solar plexus/navel chakra:

manipura-chakra
Manipura or Solar Plexus

The third Chakra is knwon as Manipura or Soloar Plexus, is symbolised by a downward pointing triangle with ten petals, along with the color yellow. The seed syllable is Ram, and the presiding deity is Braddha Rudra, with Lakini as the Shakti. Manipura is related to the metabolic and digestive systems. Manipura is believed to correspond to Islets of Langerhans, which are groups of cells in the pancreas, as well as the outer adrenal glands and the adrenal cortex. These play a valuable role in digestion, the conversion of food matter into energy for the body. The colour that corresponds to Manipura is yellow. Key issues governed by Manipura are issues of personal power, fear, anxiety, opinion-formation, introversion, and transition from simple or base emotions to complex. Physically, Manipura governs digestion, mentally it governs personal power, emotionally it governs expansiveness, and spiritually, all matters of growth.

If your energy moves into the “Manipura” chakra you are a doer in the world. You are all about action. You can do many, many things.

4. Anahata or heart chakra:

ANAHATA
Anahata or Heart Chakra

The Anahata literally means the “un-struck.” is symbolised by a circular flower with twelve green petals called the heart mind. Within it is a yantra of two intersecting triangles, forming a hexagram, symbolizing a union of the male and female. The seed mantra is Yam, the presiding deity is Ishana Rudra Shiva, and the Shakti is Kakini. Anahata is located in the heart area and is like a transition between your lower chakras and your higher chakras, between survival instincts and the instinct to liberate yourself. The lower three chakras are mainly concerned with your physical existence. Anahata is a combination; it is a meeting place for both the survival and the enlightenment chakras.

If your energies move into the “Anahata” chakra, you are a creative person. A person who is creative in nature, like an artist or an actor, is someone who lives very intensely — more intensely, perhaps, than a businessman, who is all action.

5. Vishuddha or Vishuddhi or throat chakra:

5-blue-throat-chakra
Vishuddha or Throat Chakra

Our fourth Chakra is called Vishuddha or Vishuddhi or throat chakra, which literally means “filter” or “Purification”. This energy center is associated with your voice. It relates to your ability to speak your truth, express ideas clearly, truthfully, and gracefully, and become harmoniously attuned to both inner and outer vibrations. It is  is depicted as a silver crescent within a white circle, with 16 light or pale blue, or turquoise petals. The seed mantra is Ham, and the residing deity is Panchavaktra shiva, with 5 heads and 4 arms, and the Shakti is Shakini. Vishuddha may be understood as relating to communication and growth through expression. This chakra is paralleled to the thyroid, a gland that is also in the throat and which produces thyroid hormone, responsible for growth and maturation. Physically, Vishuddha governs communication, emotionally it governs independence, mentally it governs fluent thought, and spiritually, it governs a sense of security.

If your energies move into Vishuddhi, you become a very powerful human being, but this power is not just political or administrative. A person can be powerful in many ways. A person can become so powerful that if he just sits in one place, things will happen for him. He can manifest life beyond the limitations of time and space.

synopsis: 5th Chakra: Throat: Tied to creativity and communication.
Feels pressure when you are not communicating your emotions properly.

Colour Frequency: BLUE

Natural Element: Ether (Combination of 1 and 4 Element)

6. Ajna or third-eye chakra:  ajna-chakra-495076The sixth chakra, called ajna, is located at the third eye (in between and just above eye level). “Ajna” means command. It is symbolized by a lotus with two petals, and corresponds to the colours violet, indigo or deep blue, though it is traditionally described as white. It is at this point that the two side nadi Ida (yoga) and Pingala are said to terminate and merge with the central channel Sushumna, signifying the end of duality, the characteristic of being dual (e.g. light and dark, or male andfemale). The seed syllable for this chakra is the syllable OM, and the presiding deity is Ardhanarishvara, who is a half male, half female Shiva/Shakti. The Shakti goddess of Ajna is called Hakini. Ajna (along with Bindu), is known as the third eye chakra and is linked to the pineal gland which may inform a model of its envisioning. The pineal gland is a light sensitive gland that produces the hormone melatonin which regulates sleep and waking up, and is also postulated to be the production site of the psychedelic dimethyltryptamine, the only known hallucinogen endogenous to the human body. Ajna’s key issues involve balancing the higher and lower selves and trusting inner guidance. Ajna’s inner aspect relates to the access of intuition. Mentally, Ajna deals with visual consciousness. Emotionally, Ajna deals with clarity on an intuitive level.

If your energies move into the “Agna” chakra, located between your eyebrows, you are intellectually enlightened. You have attained to a new balance and peace within you. The outside no longer disturbs you, but you are still experientially not liberated.

7. Sahasrara Or  crown chakra:

7thchakra
Sahasrara or Crown Chakra

The seventh chakra, called sahasrara, is located at the crown of the head. “Sahasrara” means thousand-petaled and represents a thousand-petaled lotus flower, generally considered to be the state of pure consciousness, within which there is neither object nor subject. When the Kundalini energy rises to this point, it unites with the male Shiva energy, and a state of liberating samadhi is attained. Symbolized by a lotus with one thousand multi-coloured petals, it is located either at the crown of the head, or above the crown of the head. Sahasrara is represented by the colour white and it involves such issues as inner wisdom and the death of the body.

Its role may be envisioned somewhat similarly to that of the pituitary gland, which secretes hormones to communicate to the rest of the endocrine system and also connects to the central nervous system via the hypothalamus. According to Gary Osborn, the thalamus is thought to have a key role in the physical basis of consciousness and is the ‘Bridal Chamber’ mentioned in the Gnostic scriptures. Sahasrara’s inner aspect deals with the release of karma, physical action with meditation, mental action with universal consciousness and unity, and emotional action with “beingness.

If your energies move into “Sahasrar,” at the crown of your head, you become ecstatic beyond all reason. You will simply burst with ecstasy for no reason whatsoever.

The Biology behind CHAKRAS

The 7 Chakras and Endocrine Glands

seven-chakras-endocrine-gland
7 Chakras and Endrocrine Glands

Each of the chakras in the body is paired with an endocrine gland and governs its function. So before we go any further, here are each of the chakras, their corresponding gland, and their function:

  • Root chakra (1st) — Reproductive glands (testes in men; ovaries in women); controls sexual development and secretes sex hormones.
  • Sacral chakra (2nd) — Adrenal glands; regulates the immune system and metabolism.
  • Solar Plexus chakra (3rd) — Pancreas; regulates metabolism.
  • Heart chakra (4th) — Thymus gland; regulates the immune system.
  • Throat chakra (5th) — Thyroid gland; regulates body temperature and metabolism.
  • Third Eye chakra (6th) — Pituitary gland; produces hormones and governs the function of the previous five glands; sometimes, the pineal gland is linked to the third eye chakra as well as to the crown chakra.
  • Crown chakra (7th) — Pineal gland; regulates biological cycles, including sleep.

How Chakras and Glands Work Together

Disturbances in the subtle energy of the chakras translate into physical manifestation and symptoms who are likely associated with the corresponding glands and organs. It is not to say that chakras are physical or physiological in nature. They are considered as energy centers that influence our being at many levels, including the physical and biological levels.

Whenever one of our energy centers is thrown off balance by a blockage, physical maladies can happen. It is important to remember that chakras function on the same principle as a pendulum. If one of them is underactive or overactive, signs will start to manifest that it’s “out of rhythm”. Chakra balancing is in order.

The disturbance is felt either at the level of that specific or the level of another chakra or set of chakras connected to it. For instance, when the throat chakra is blocked you may experience sore throat, neck pain, or laryngitis. Similarly, when the heart chakra is out-of-sorts, high blood pressure and heart-related problems can arise.

GEO-BIOLOGY AND CHAKRAS:

Chakras.grids_.AFTER_-300x199
Pyramid for light

Geo-biology studies the influences of earth energies on all forms of life. The earth is threaded with a grid of energy lines or meridians of electromagnetic energy which have a powerful influence on all living things. Most ancient monuments and sacred temples around the world have one thing in common: the presence of strong earth energies which have the power to alter and uplift human consciousness.

As the DD team made their first geo-biology studies onsite, they were mesmerized by the high vibrational energy points and energy lines they measured across the land. Thirteen different energy spots are located on the outer circle or periphery path, which is now a silence and meditation pathway to welcome and prepare every participant.

Coming closer to the heart of the land where the Pyramid is located, they measured 7 different energy points, each vibrating on a different colour. When a visible ray of white light crosses a transparent crystal, it separates into 7 main colours: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and purple. Our body works like a crystal as it diffracts the cosmic light in 7 main rays, concentrated in 7 energy centres, called ’’chakras’’.

These energy points progressively increase in vibration and form together the ’’Chakra trail’’ which interestingly, has the form of a human foetus, symbolising the re-birthing process. Each participant will need to spend sufficient time on each chakra point to tune in to its increasing vibration and be properly prepared for the energy level inside the Pyramid. The retreat programme  therefore contains several days of preparation, harmonising each chakra from red (base chakra) to purple energy  (crown chakra).
